Preparing Your Pool for the Heat Wave!

The Basics: 

• Maintain a residual closer to 3.0 ppm of chlorine or bromine to prepare for a higher demand from the hotter weather. Turn up your chlorinator, your feed device or add more Dazzle Protect Sticks, Pucks or Tablets to your skimmer or floater just prior to hot weather arrival.  

• For your chlorine to be most effective, your pH needs to be properly balanced at sit between 7.4 and 7.6. 

• Test pH and chlorine or bromine at home as often as necessary to maintain these levels. 

• Bring a water sample to the store just prior to the hotter weather arrival to ensure your overall balance is correct and your algae defenses are strong. Follow the advice and recipe given by your retailer. 

Timing is Everything: 

• Make sure you are ready prior to the arrival of the hotter weather. Playing catch-up is never fun! 

• Make your regular maintenance product applications earlier if needed: 

• Apply your maintenance application of Mineraluxe Advance 

• Apply Dazzle Amaze Plus 

• Apply Dazzle Assure 

• If you use Solei, congratulations, you’re ready to go. Just make sure you leave the cover off to take full advantage of the superior, continuous oxidation for clearer, more sparkling water. Solei requires the sun to do its job!

Tips on Water Temperature: 

• For every 6°C rise in pool water temperature, you require 50% more sanitizer by weight. 

For example: As your pool water temperature goes from 10°C in the spring to 28°C mid-summer, you will likely need to use 4 - 6 sticks weekly, instead of 1 - 2 weekly. 

Final Tips: 

• Test Often! Test your levels as often as required and be prepared. 

• Run Your Pump! When the demand ramps up, so too should your pump time if you use a timer. Remember, the addition of your chlorine or bromine is only happening when your pump is running. You’ll also need more filtration with the higher bather loads. 

• Leave Your Cover OFF. With hotter weather coming, covers will do more harm than good. Their best use is preventing heat loss when it cools down overnight. Leave them off during heat waves and let your pool breathe properly.
